Sunflower is a private voice journal. This policy says plainly what the app stores, what leaves your phone and when, and how to get your data out or delete it. Items marked like this must be completed before the site goes live.

Who we are

What the app stores on your phone

• Recordings. Audio is written to your phone’s storage as you speak and stays there. Recordings are never uploaded unless you choose an option below that needs them.
• Transcripts, titles and quotes. Text derived from your recordings, including your own edits.
• Photos you attach, your settings, and your onboarding answers (why you journal and when).

Deleting the app deletes all of this from the phone. Use Export journal in Settings first if you want a copy.

What leaves your phone, and only when you choose it

Transcription

On this phone (default). Transcripts are produced by Apple’s speech recognition on your device. On some devices or languages Apple’s recognizer runs on Apple’s servers; iOS asks for your permission (“Speech Recognition”) before that happens, and Apple’s privacy policy governs that processing.

Sunflower’s server (optional, off by default). If you choose “Better transcripts” in Settings, the audio file for an entry is sent over an encrypted connection to Sunflower’s server, transcribed by our speech-to-text provider ([Groq, Inc. / OpenAI, L.L.C.]), and the audio is discarded once the transcript is returned. We do not keep recordings on the server.

In Your Words

To choose which of your sentences to show back to you, Sunflower sends the text of the relevant transcripts (never audio, never photos) to our server, where a language model provided by [OpenRouter, Inc. and the model provider] selects among sentences you actually said. The text is processed and discarded; it is not stored on the server. You can turn this off with “Use entries together to create In Your Words” in Settings, and transcription of single entries continues to work.

Account

If you sign in with Apple or email, we store your account identifier and email (Apple may provide a private relay address) to restore your membership across devices. [Describe cloud backup of journal data here if you add sync; the current app stores journal content only on the phone.]

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We receive a transaction record that tells us your membership is active; we never see your payment details.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data, and we do not use your recordings, transcripts, photos or quotes to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s. Our providers are contractually prohibited from training on this data.
• We do not show ads and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
• Reminder notifications never contain journal content.
• Diagnostics you may choose to send from Help never attach journal content.

Security

Data in transit to Sunflower’s server is encrypted (TLS). Data on your phone is protected by iOS’s file protection and, if you turn it on, Sunflower’s Face ID lock. [State whether audio files are additionally encrypted at rest once implemented.] No system is perfectly secure; keep your device passcode on.

Your controls

• Export everything (audio, transcripts, metadata, photos) as a ZIP from Settings → Export journal, whether or not you have an active membership.
• Delete an entry at any time from the entry itself.
• Delete your journal from Settings → Export and data.
• Delete your account and all data from Settings → Export and data → Delete account. This removes journal data from the phone immediately and account data from our server within [30] days, and revokes Sign in with Apple. It does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage that in your Apple ID settings.

Children

Sunflower is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent where you live), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
